Paintings at galleries and museums are not allowed to be touched. However I painted my characters directly on the glass window with a flame on the wall in front of the glass to let the viewers engage with the work.

The purpose of this shifting of viewpoint was to reduce the distance between the work and the viewers. Furthermore, the characters reside not in a painted background but in a real world behind the glass window in the city and in the gallery simultaneously.

This allows the viewers inside and outside of the gallery to take part in the painting. I hope the freewheeling movement of the characters, and the symbolizing the 21st century lifestyle, can reach out to the viewer as a delightful moment of imagination and joy.

액자에 잘 포장되어진 완성된 작품은 갤러리나 미술관에서 관람자에게 만지도록 허락되지 않는다. 본인은 윈도우가 있는 공간에 액자를 그려 넣어 관람자로 하여금 작품의 내용에 관여할 수 있도록 했다. 이 같은 의도는 손댈 수 없는 그림과 관람자간의 거리를 좁히는 행위이며, 발상의 전환이었다. 또한 그림의 배경이 되는 부분은 실제 유리창 밖의 풍경을 활용하여 캐릭터가 작품 속에서만 존재하는 것이 아니라 우리들의 모습을 대변하는 존재임을 알도록 한다. 현대의 일상을 유영하는 상징적 코드로서의 캐릭터의 자유분방한 움직임들이 관람자에게 즐거운 상상력과 유쾌함으로 소통되길 희망해 본다.
